World Journey - New Photographs by Doug Schwab (back)

For the Cumberland Times-News "Slice of Life" Friday, June 12, 2009 (Submitted by Jerri Dell)

In January 2009, Doug Schwab and his wife Betsey Hurwitz-Schwab traveled around the world, visiting such amazing places as the pyramids of Egypt, the Taj Mahal, and the Inca ruins of Machu Pichu in Peru. In addition to these wonders, however, the Schwabs also discovered a rich tapestry of lesser-known places, people and cultures-- the beauty and variety of which are just as fascinating as the famous sites, in what they say about countries so different from our own.

From June 13 to July 26h, the Arteco Gallery's summer exhibition "World Journey" will feature many of the exceptional photographs Doug Schwab took during this trip. With insight and great artistry, Doug documents a world of street vendors, tribal chiefs, fire dancers, craftspeople, and Buddhist monks; old and young, modern and traditional, rich and poor. And in viewing his photos, the visitor is able to discover, as he did, something about what makes these countries and their cultures both unique and fascinating.

The Arteco Gallery welcomes the public to attend an opening reception for "World Journey" this Saturday, June 13, from 5 to 7 p.m . Come meet the artist and join in this celebration of life in many lands!

The Arteco Gallery is located at, 60 Pershing Street, one block from Baltimore Street in Downtown Cumberland (across from the District Court and next to Merchants' Alley). For more information, call: 301-777-8888.
